What to expect

Factory Works is an area to examine the science behind gears and ramps. Children can design a downhill racecourse, experiment with motion on a magnetic wall, and make objects move using gears.

Tips

• This room can get busy and loud. There tends to be lots of children excited and loud when racing the cars and playing with gears.

Ideas while you're here

• Let's race cars! Will the cars go down the ramp faster on a straight track, or a curvy track?
• Let's build a gear train! Which turns the planes faster, a small gear or a large gear?
• Ramps! How many ramps can we connect and race the ball from beginning to end? 3, 4 or more?
